This mansion belonged to John Rustman, owner of the Jefferson Ice Company.
Rustman began his enterprise by cutting large blocks of ice from ponds and lakes and storing them in sawdust in ice houses to be delivered to residences throughout the year. When the Rustman family emigrated to Logan Square, they were listed as "ice hustlers" by the census.
